Robert Jones Pulls Hawaii Plug

According to the Daily twitter account:

Robert Jones has withdrawn his name from consideration for the University of Hawaii presidency, Bruininks e-mail says. Story to come.

Dr. Jones was one of two finalists for the position of president of the University of Hawaii. Unfortunately some of the locals there were annoyed that a local candidate - a real Hawaiian, I guess - was not put forward. This is too bad as Dr. Jones would have been an excellent president.

A quick Google search yields:

From the Honolulu Star-Bulletin

Robert Jones, one of two finalists to become the next University of Hawaii president, has withdrawn his candidacy, UH Board of Regents Chairman Allan Landon said in a statement today.

“We are disappointed with his decision but wish him well,” Landon said in the written statement posted on the UH Web site.

Jones is senior vice president for system academic administration at the University of Minnesota.

His withdrawal leaves only M.R.C. Greenwood of the University of California at Davis as the other finalist for the position.
